Where Shall Wisdom Be Found?
Documenting + Reclaiming a Culture of Elderwomen, the Matriarchs
to remember and practice resiliency, joy, connection, and love.

In an era when loneliness is an epidemic, Wisdom Anthologies seeks to reintegrate the generations that are most at risk to physical and emotional isolation: our elders and young adults. These were, and can be, phases in life full of celebration and honor.

What has happened to aging? Where is our resiliency?

We must find each other again.

We believe our elderwomen can remind us that life is to be celebrated especially when it doesn’t go according to plan, that ordinary and daily work is the way to a sustainable and content life, and what matters most are the conversations that build relationships of love throughout the decades.

We document the lives, knowledge, and insight of women who have evolved into the Matriarch phase of of their lives and creates Living Portraits for their families and communities. The elderwomen’s perspective and experiential knowledge will heal families and communities. Wisdom Anthologies practices deep listening to witness and record the ordinary rhythms that are the essence of feminine wisdom. The short films, audio recordings, and written texts created for families and intimate communities reveal the profound work and experience of domesticity embodied by their mothers--this is the ecology of the human heart.

Wisdom Anthologies reestablishes a culture of matriarchs and elderwomen as it explores and reveals the thresholds of the feminine archetypes: maiden, mother, and crone (or matriarch). At each phase, a soul must cross a threshold as relationships change and evolve with one’s self as well as family and community. What happens at the threshold? What happens within the spaces between where one archetype dies and gives life to the next?

Together, the words, phrases, gestures, and experiences of these women create a tapestry of The Feminine.

Through documentation, storytelling, and
ritual the generations find each other.

Meet the Elderwomen

Wisdom Anthologies travels the world interviewing women who have lived through the maiden and mother archetypes––in various, surprising, and inventive ways. They have now stepped into the wise archetype of crone. As many of them are on the threshold of death, they are the most alive women we have encountered.

How We Document the Matriarchs

Wisdom Anthologies documents women in their ordinary lives to portray how extraordinary they are. If you have an elderwoman you’d like us to document, please take a look at the different ways we can document her for you to remember and recall her essence and the influence she had on you.

Why Wisdom Anthologies

Where shall Wisdom be found? Why document women who face aging and death? Because they know what it is to live and continue to live more fully than any of us who are caught up in the endless to-do lists. Their words and perspective will heal us all. Where shall Wisdom be found? Read more to find out why these women matter.
